A woman of the world. A mother, a wife, a lover of beauty, movement and life. I moved from my home country, South Africa at the age of 22 years old. I moved to Doha, Qatar for work, met my husband there, then moved to his home country, Croatia for 10 years. I developed a life there that deeply shaped me into the woman I am today.
Coach Lee:
For readers meeting you here for the first time, who is Nabilah beyond the visual world they see online?
Nabilah:
A woman of the world. A mother, a wife, a lover of beauty, movement and life. I moved from my home
country, South Africa at the age of 22 years old. I moved to Doha, Qatar for work, met my husband there, then moved to his home country, Croatia for 10 years. I developed a life there that deeply shaped me into the woman I am today.
Coach Lee:
What would you say was/ were the most di2icult decision you had to take as a young adult entering the
Fashion & Beauty world?
Nabilah: I entered the world of fashion at 17 years old when I was scouted at a local fashion show held at my
High School. I got signed with a Modelling agency in Cape Town soon after and did many commercial fashion shoots for magazine editorials which included Marie Claire, Elle, and Cosmopolitan. Modelling was always something that came naturally to me and I was always very good at it.
I could have done Modelling completely full time, however my parents insisted I finish my University degree in Graphic and Communication Design before I decide.
I’m extremely grateful to have great parents who guided me throughout my younger self-life.
I continued Modelling part-time in South Africa so my personal experience with Modelling was enjoyable.
Sometimes at a young age in the Modelling industry, it’s easy to fall into peer pressure. Though I had fun,
though I was always grounded by my studies and my parents.
Balance is key.
After completing 4 years of studying Graphic design while Modelling part time, throughout I worked at various design studios and advertising agencies. This was at the point that I decided to pack my bags and joined the world of aviation as a flight attendant for Qatar Airways for 2 years. Little did I know at the age of 22 when I moved to Qatar, what a profound impact the country would have in shaping my adult life.
Coach Lee:
Which chapters of your life shaped the woman, artist, and businesswoman you have become?
Nabilah:
After the birth of my amazing son.
I was living in Zagreb, Croatia for less than 2 years when he was born. It was a challenging experience going
through pregnancy without my family and best friends around me, living in a foreign speaking country and still navigating my way around the city. I didn’t know how strong I truly was or my full potential until I had my son.
After 2 years of not working and being a full time mom with everything else on hold,
I decided to do something I’ve always wanted to do.
Makeup Artistry.
I studied at one of the most prestigious Makeup Academies in Zagreb and soon after started writing weekly
beauty columns for a local online fashion and beauty portal I then started doing short makeup videos on
Instagram which gained online popularity quite fast in Croatia.
There weren’t many (if any) foreigners living in Croatia doing what I was doing then in the online beauty
industry. I built up my community over the years and started specializing in Bridal Makeup for luxury
destination weddings in remote locations around Croatia, especially on the islands in the South of Croatia.
Most of my brides were foreigners getting married in Croatia. I truly love the industry and being a part of one of the most important days in a woman’s life. While being a bridal makeup artist, I always had to keep up to date (and still do) with online social media trends to stay relevant and fresh. I think this is import a to keep up to date.
I’ve worked on various modelling campaigns with international fashion and beauty brands and have been
featured on billboards all around Croatia, in popular fashion magazines and online lifestyle, fashion and
beauty portals.
Within a short while, the industry knew my name, my profile and reputation skyrocketed, and my work
definitely become a part of my identity. Literally I am living my dreams and a life of which I love and no 2 days are ever the same.
Another chapter in my life that shaped me is moving once again from Croatia back to Qatar after 10 years. It
was for my husband’s job and it was honestly an incredibly hard decision for me to move out Croatia as I love the country and have developed my life there.
I’ve had to reinvent myself so many times, and each time I got back up and succeeded when I thought it
wasn’t possible. I’m not someone who gives up easily! The resilience of a woman with a vision is unmatched.
For the first 6 months living in Qatar I was overwhelmed. It was not easy. I had accept the move and let go of
the past to make space for the future. I did a lot of research during this time on the beauty industry, social
media and how to improve on my skills. I met a wonderful group of woman, some who became my good
friends, and who I could look up to, and taught me a lot about the media industry in Qatar.
Building Community and collaborations are important factors to grow in the industry. I quite enjoy breaking
my comfort zone, though cautious as it was, I had to also approach new like-minded woman and potential
clients who had similar values to mine with di2erent cultures.
Coach Lee: What does beauty mean to you now, beyond appearance?
Nabilah: Honestly, it was never truly only about appearance for me. Inner beauty and intelligence is so much
more. Outer beauty will fade and as the years pass you realize this more on a deeper level as a woman. You
start searching for deeper understanding of life, deeper meaning to be a great Mom, loving wife and to be of
service with my skills to others who are striving to be where I have and currently am.
Coach Lee: What has working closely with women taught you about confidence?
Nabilah: Just be yourself, authenticity is everything. everything else will flow and what is meant for you will
never pass if it’s truly meant for you at the time. You attract what you put out into the world. I’ve become a lot more confident over the years, trusting myself more, trusting the timing by being more patient. As woman when we support each other, cheer each other on to succeed, that does bring a sense of confidence as well.
Coach Lee:
What is the connection, in your eyes, between beauty and self-respect?
Nabilah:
Beauty is the by-product of self-respect. When you respect yourself, you take greater care of yourself, both
externally and internally and this is purely for your wellbeing. There is a connection between the mental and
physical aspect of your journey at life. Living intentionally, setting boundaries, respecting your values, this is
the kind of beauty that is felt and not only just seen on the outside.
Coach Lee:
In a time when social media creates so much comparison, how can a woman stay true to herself?
Nabilah:
Well for me its always been about not to focus on the problems at life, search for the solutions and practice
gratitude as much as possible. Something I have seen on your social platforms that you often speak about as
a life coach. You are 100% worth it, just be yourself. With time, it gets easier. Do the things that make you feel alive and be around other women who support, motivate, and uplift you.
Coach Lee:
When women from di2erent cultures read this interview, what is one belief about beauty or womanhood you
would love to leave with them?
Nabilah: I believe the most powerful form of beauty is being comfortable in your own skin, to be free to be
authentically yourself without the need of acceptance and approvals from others. With so many standards
set upon women through social media, be more resilient in you and resist the need to fit in, nobody is you and that is your power and beauty.
Coach Lee: As a woman working in the Middle East, what do you admire most about the women of this
region?
Nabilah:
Elegance, femininity and modesty. You can exude beauty yet still be modest in your dress. I’ve become more
aligned with my feminine energy since living in the Middle East. Women here are at peace, they don’t chase or hustle hard like in Western and European cities. There’s a deep sense of respect, while being elegant.
Coach Lee:
How do you see Middle Eastern women balancing cultural heritage with the freedom of modern selfexpression?
Nabilah:
From what I’ve seen and experienced, Middle Eastern Woman are honoring traditions yet still evolving with
the Modern times especially in the younger generations. You can see this in their abaya styles (local dress
code) for example, where contemporary styling and traditions merge together perfectly.
Coach Lee:
Do you feel the women of the Middle East are reshaping the global conversation on femininity and elegance?
Nabilah:
I don’t think elegance is defined by how you look from the outside, though how you portray yourself and how you manage your inner beauty. Middle Eastern women have a particular elegance, standards, and refined nature that is less loud and more feminine which is very current to today’s times.
Coach Lee:
What is one thing you wish the wider world understood better about Middle Eastern women?
Nabilah:
I am not a Middle Eastern woman, though after living in Qatar for a few years I have noticed the quiet strength, resilience and being feminine and soft hearted yet also strong and powerful. Arab women in particular are highly educated, knowledgeable with a deep sense of passion for what they do and stand for.
Coach Lee:
At what point did you realize your gift was becoming a serious business?
Nabilah:
I suppose it became clearer to me when the interest in me professionally increased by the number of
bookings we received. In addition at this stage I was constantly o2ering advice to friends and social media
followers online about beauty and skincare, then that I believed I was ready to further educate myself and
develop my skills into a business. When I lived In Croatia I realized that my gift was being di2erent. To grow,
expand and progress at knowing me deeper and working on my business as well. I had to work harder to be
seen at social events, grow my community and to talk about my business to spread the word. In the initial
stages, it was hard tough though now worth it.
Coach Lee:
We are sure that you are inundated with requests from clients and there would be times that job o2er clash.
What would be the bases of you accepting to work with a client for a specific product?
Nabilah:
My values and integrity are very important to me. When the product aligns with who I am and should I believe in the product or service and would personally wear or use it, then that would enjoy my preference. In addition, its crucial that my time is compensated fairly and professionally.
Coach Lee:
What principles guide you when building a brand that feels both successful and personal?
Nabilah:
Well, basically it would be by living Intentionally and authentically with enormous gratitude and appreciation
for my life, my family and those who continue to support me like you Coach Lee. From what I do, where I go,
what I wear, how I nourish my body, who I surround myself with, its all Alignment. It’s not only about
motivation, consistency and being mindful are important contributing factors too.
Coach Lee:
Recently you have taken to Pilates, speak to us through this addition to your successful career path at life?
Nabilah:
Movement has always been very important to me throughout my life. In the first year of moving to Qatar I
started consistently training on the Pilates reformer and fell in love. Not only is it amazing for toning and
sculpting your body, it has really helped me mentally to focus and push through to gain results.
I did the Merrithew Stott Intensive Reformer course and because an instructor. Being a student and teaching
are two completely di2erent things! Being a Pilates Reformer coach taught me to step out of my comfort zone even more, articulation in public speaking, confidence, and to not be afraid of our potential which is limitless. Pilates teaches me something new every day and I am constantly challenging myself and developing new training routines. I’m grateful for the ability to move my body every day and to teach and inspire more women about the Pilates Repertoire and the benefits it has on the body and mind.
Pilates is about controlled movements, breath work, awareness and flow.
A system that brings you back to your inner self.
Coach Lee:
How do you balance your inner self with the demands that come with such high standards of performance?
Nabilah:
Recovery days. I have a busy schedule in the beauty and wellness world, though I always make time for
myself during the week. Recovery days would be including some time at the spa, infrared restorative yoga,
mornings where I take my time for myself such as going to the beauty salon or relaxing on the beach with a
good book or a being out with friends. Scheduling time with my son and husband is also very important to me.
Coach Lee:
What kind of legacy would you like your business to create in women’s lives?
Nabilah:
Especially being a travelling wife, it sometimes seems impossible to reinvent yourself and start all over again
in a new country. I’ve reinvented myself many times, succeeded and failed eyt I always got back up again and
continued to learn more skills, connect with new people and be positive.
It’s never too late to do the thing that you love and to make a business out of it,
with disciple, confidence and clarity anything is possible.
Raise your standards and trust yourself and your choices ladies while being mindful that patients is key as
you always say Coach Lee.
Coach Lee:
What are your aspirations for taking your brand to a wider international audience?
Nabilah:
My aspirations in expanding my brand is to connect to a wider community of women from di2erent
backgrounds and cultures who want to become more confident and to go after their full potential and build
on their dreams. Living authentically and with intention. Beauty on the inside and out and wellness go hand in hand and I would like more woman to live this way in a realistic way.
Coach Lee:
How do you balance being a phenomenal career women, wife and mom in your journey at life?
Nabilah:
Creating structure, consistency, and having a routine really helps me and I try to show this as much as
possible in the content I share. Taking good care of yourself is not a luxury but a necessity for longevity and a
to bring more value into our lives. I recently saw one of your posts and you said:’ Chinese proverb that
stipulates you cant pour from an empty cup.’
Coach Lee:
What kind of support do you receive and or ask for with your husband?
Nabilah:
Encouragement to step out of my comfort zone. To take risks whether they succeed or fail, it’s all a learning
process and you cannot reach success if you don’t try and develop on new skills. He lets me be in my
feminine energy which is important for me as woman in this industry. Sometimes my work can get demanding at times, mentally and physically and he provides trust and extra support in the home when needed.
Coach Lee:
What are your 3 then 5 year ambitions to your career?
Nabilah:
My 3 year plan is to continue with my Makeup and Skincare luxury private masterclasses which I started a few months ago. I discovered I love to teach woman become their best selves, on the outside and on the inside. For my Pilates journey, I’m continuing with my education with Merrithew Stott , I am planning to start teaching private Reformer and Mat classes in Croatia this Summer, particularly on the island Korčula in a wellness zone. My dream to is to merge beauty, skincare and wellness (Pilates) on the island Korcula in Croatia for the Summers for workshops and mini luxury retreats. Here, like -minded woman can come together to connect in a beautiful environment in nature, learning more about skincare, wellness and doing daily Pilates sessions.
Coach Lee:
Nabilah do you have any last words of advice to young individuals wishing to pursue Fashion, Beauty and
Wellness?
Nabilah:
Don’t play small, learn to discuss your ambitions less with others and be more determined to pursue every
dream you have. There is no failure, its all education until you reach that place that feels like home. By the
way that I also got from one of your posts on Instagram and that resonates deeply with me. after all your
dreams.
There’s nobody stopping you other than yourself. Educate yourself, be around women who inspire and uplift
you, be willing to put in the work and trust me, it’s all worth it!
